National Secretary's Day gift

Happy Secretary's Day!!!!!!!!!!  Thinking oh that doesn't apply to me, I'm not a secretary or Administrative Assistant as they have politically corrected the name to lol.  OF COURSE YOU ARE~as the head of all things that need to be done, scheduled, arranged, kept track of, and overseer of EVERYTHING for you family we are ALL Secretaries!

Since I was 19 years old, I've enjoyed this day of respect and recognition for all those things that people aren't even aware you do for them.

So today, my co-workers will come in to find these on their desks from me.  Designed by my upline Bren Yule, this fun desk organizer has a little of everything on it.  A little cork board, a place to glue photos, and a cup holder.

Husband Appreciation Day - Saturday the 20th

This coming Saturday is Husband Appreciation Day!  I know, I know when I saw this my initial thought was whatever, how did that become a holiday.  But on second glance, and maybe because I'm much more sentimental and appreciative of my husband who's been deployed for 14 months, I thought I should remind everyone of the day.

I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to picking up dirty work uniforms, finding dirty dishes in the oddest places around our house, yelling "get those boots off my carpet".  I also can't wait to see a smirk on his face when I know he's up to no good, to have a hand to hold on walks to the playground, have someone to get that joke that no one else would understand, and to have a hug at the end of a what seems like never-ending day.

So in honor of my husband, and yours.  I hope you have a great weekend together!

Paper Cupcakes Cricut Artiste Blog Hop

Welcome to the April edition of the Paper cupcakes Cricut Artiste blog hop.  If you came from Bren Yule's blog, glad you are here you are in the right place on the trail!

My project is something I'm excited about, as its one of my kits for my upcoming Spring Fling Openhouse Workshop (stop back tomorrow for event details, including how to order your kits for out of towners).

This month we focused on the "Happy Mother's Day Key", page 74 of your guide.  The pretty buttercup flower is from that key (Accent 1 w/shift on).  The purse itself is from the number "5" key, 3D Object.  I cut the purse using fit to page mode on my Cricut.

The paper for this project is Chantilly.  Adding the zip-strip on the bottom of the purse was so easy and gave it a finished look.  The other embellishments used here are: Just Blooms daisy white flower,  Pink Assortment Buttons Z1370, Olive Baker's Twine, from the Harvest Assortment Z1751, and last Pink Glitz Glitter Gel Z1770.

What I love about this project is that the size is perfect for using all those bits of scraps and left over embellishments from other projects.  It can be used easily as a small gift bag for treats, gift card holder, name table settings, etc.

Thanks again for stopping by now hop on over to my talented pal and Spring Fling Workshop co-host, Dana Simone Kurtz's blog.

Enjoy and come back soon and OFTEN!

Here is the full list of hoppers so you don't lose your way:
The hoppers in order are:
1) Bren Yule
2) Heather Plotzke
3) Dana Simone-Kurtz
4) Patty Smith
5) Linda Taylor
6) Rosalinda Cruz

Duplicate Layouts -- made easy

We have all vacationed with friends and family and to print extra photos, or now email out copies.   A lot of us have even had to (gasp) RESCRAP photos to send to others.

Studio J is Heaven sent for these situations.  Here is why:

My best friend came to visit in December. To minimize flash bulbs (yes the three of us were all scrappers), we traded off days taking photos and then combined all the pictures together through emails.  Donna, being AMAZING, logged onto Studio J right away and started scrapbooking her visit.

When she was done, she went in and created two copy of those layouts, even changing the journalling to reflect if I or Connie were talking.  Ordered the copies and with in a few days all three of us had our own scrapbook.  SO GREAT!

I love you Donna! I love Studio J!

For Always - Display Tray

As soon as I saw the paper pack FOR ALWAYS, I knew I would finally be scrapbooking my wedding photos.
I created this 5 x 7 display tray in under an hour.  I quickly added my photos and pieces of the B&T paper using modge-podge.  Next I added the new Sparkles Clear Flourishes - small. and a few Cricut roses (in Honey and Cranberry) which were ink distressed on the tips with cranberry ink.
I was all done, that quickly.  I love how it turned out!

Put down that duster! Studio J is calling you on this special day

Okay friends, here is a holiday just for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

National NO HOUSEWORK DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like the perfect day for a crafter!!!!!!!  Now if this day was combined with National Someone come and take all my kids away for a few hours, think of all the crafting I could do.

Since no one volunteered to come and take my little darlings for the day, looks like I'll be going to Plan B...Studio J day while they play.  For me Studio J online scrapbooking gives me the freedom to scrapbook AND play near my kiddos without worries of sticky fingers, spilled juices, and accidents with tools (not that a child of mine would ever want to play Barbie's hair dresser with my CTMH scissors).

So abandon those dust pans, and stop folding that laundry and let's get crafting!!!!!!

More Canvas Love

Yesterday I showed you how to make Photo Canvas's for under $10.  Today I wanted to show you another example.

This photo of my Dad from 1959 at Niagra Falls, was too handsome to have it hidden away in an album.  So I decided to showcase it using our 6 x 6 photo canvas ($4.95), using the simple tissue paper/modge podge technique (see yesterday's post for full directions).

I'm In Love with 6x6 Canvas

I'm in love with CTMH's 6 x 6 Canvas Displays.  They can be used in endless projects and are priced right at only $4.95!!!!  They can be painted on, glued on, scrapbooked on, and like what I'm going to show you today, made into Canvas photos.

Here is the canvas I made for my Mom.  This is one of her favorite photos of my Dad and Brother.  So you can get an idea of the quality, this photo was blown up to 6.25 x 6.25 from an old photo booth mini strip of pictures from my Dad's wallet.  So let me tell you how I did it (and did it under an hour!).

On my home printer,  I printed my photo onto plain tissue paper (nothing fancy mine is from the Dollar Tree).  To do this I took a piece of copy paper and gift wrapped it so to speak using scotch tape on the back to hold it down.  If there is a glossy side be sure to have that down.  You want to print on the tissue-y side.  I then put it into my printer, crossed my fingers, and then it printed!!!!!!!  Let this dry for awhile.  I just say it aside and came back  a little later after prepping the next step.

What you'll need next is a pair of scissors, a foam brush, and modge podge glue (I used Mat, because I wanted it to look as if it was printed right on the canvas.  I trimmed the tissue paper to about 6.5 x 6.5, it will be further trimmed later..  Printing/trimming the photo larger than necessary allowed margin of error if I didn't quite glue it straight. On this one I did, but on others I was glad it was there.

Here we go.  I painted a good amount of Modge Podge directly onto the canvas!  Make sure you have it completely covered and wet.  Next put the tissue paper on it gently centered printing should be over the edge.  We will worry about sides later!

Starting in the center and working towards edges, I used my finger working in a circular motion to work photo down into canvas smoothing all air bubbles as I went.  It was really easy to do.  After I smoothed it all out, I went back and pushed the photo into the canvas (one finger on top/one underneath) one more time so you can see the weaving of the canvas in the photo.  That's the best part.  I did not put a coat of modge podge on top for a sealant.  If your canvas is in a high traffic-ed area or will be touched I recommend this.

When the top is finished its time to move onto the sides.  I used an exacto razor to trim the sides leaving roughly a .25 inch all the way around.  Dipping my finger into the modge podge, I carefully went around and tapped all the edges down on all four sides.

I love how this canvas turned out and have used this technique several more times.  Color photos work great too.  What do you think?  Leave me a comment, I'd love your opinions and to be able to help with any questions.

National PB & J day

In honor of National PB & J day, I believe everyone should be having a picnic.  If you can't have an outside picnic, no problem.  Spread a blanket out on the and have an indoor picnic!  How much fun will that be for your kiddos on Tuesday to have an indoor picnic.

Looking for something special to serve tonight.  Try a GRILLED PB & J!!! Oh so yummy.  My friend Ardy used to make them for me after nights I'd work late.  If you've never had one you're missing out, they are so oohy-gooehy yummy.  When I was pregnant, it was about the only thing I could eat (maybe that's why my daughter is so "nutty" lol).

So we have the menu set, picnic area ready, what's left....hmmmmmm.  YOUR CAMERA, have it ready!  Days like National PB & J are my favorite kinds of holidays to scrapbook.  I want my kids to remember all the fun and silly things we did day to day.

When you're ready to scrapbook, I recommend the April stamp of the month set for the perfect picnic layout, try it with Claire paper pack for a fun summery indoor or out layout!

Happy PB & J Day!
